В работе освещаются результаты ревизии коллекций из раскопок 1950-х гг. и изучения новых палеонтологических материалов многослойной верхнепалеолитической стоянки Костёнки 17 (Спицынская). Фауна включает 15 видов млекопитающих, среди которых присутствуют широко распространённые виды, имеющие голарктический ареал, представители широколиственных и смешанных лесов и мигранты из аридных территорий - степей, полупустынь.

На Русской равнине известно большое количество палеолитических стоянок, на которых накапливались и сохранялись ископаемые остатки позвоночных животных (Верещагин и Кузьмина [Vereshchagin and Kuzmina] 1977). Особенно ценную информацию дают многослойные палеолитические памятники, отложения на которых аккумулировались в течение позднего плейстоцена. Они позволяют судить о былом разнообразии древних фаун и являются важным источником для реконструкций палеоэкологических условий времени существования стоянок и образа жизни их обитателей

Двустворчатые моллюски Arctica islandica (Linnaeus, 1776) широко распространены в Северной Атлантике и прилегающих полярных водах, включая Белое море. Они стали объектом обширных исследований благодаря своему промысловому значению и чрезвычайной долговечности. Однако мало что известно об их трофическом поведении за исключением нескольких лабораторных экспериментов, использовавших культивированные водоросли. В этом исследовании моллюскам (средняя длина раковины 23.4 ± 1.89 мм, сырой вес 3.15 ± 0.85 г) в качестве пищи был предложен планктон, свежесобранный в прибрежных водах Белого моря. В течениe 4-часового эксперимента Arctica поглотили широкий спектр частиц, от пикопланктонных цианобактерий (<2 мкм) и нано-криптофит до цепочек диатомей (>250 мкм в длину). Скорости фильтрации, измеренные на разных видах планктона, варьировали от 0.53 л ч-1 до 4.27 л ч-1. Максимальные удельные скорости фильтрации Arctica (6.02 л ч-1 г-1 сырого веса тканей) соответствовали ранее опубликованным показателям для литоральных мидий, таких как Mytilus edulis Linnaeus, 1758. Рассчитанная селективность питания увеличивалась нелинейно с размером пищевых частиц. Однако моллюски также выбирали между клетками схожего размера и таксономической принадлежности. В дополнение к предпочитаемому диатомовому фитопланктону моллюски отфильтровывали гетеротрофных динофлагеллят и других микроконсументов. На основании скорости поглощения планктона рацион Arctica равнялся ~1% углерода ее тканей в день и соответствовал рассчитанной удельной скорости роста 0.003 д-1.
Усиление биосинтеза каталазы, антиоксидантного фермента, рассматривается в литературе как часть физиологического механизма, поддерживающего жизнеспособность комаров в стрессовых условиях. Недавно при определении активности каталазы в гомогенатах самцов комаров Aedes (Aedes) geminus Peus и Culex territans Walker автором показано, что у неокрепших и незрелых имаго активность фер мента повышена; далее в онтогенезе уровень активности фермента снижается и выходит на плато. В настоящей работе проведена проверка этой закономерности у самцов комаров двух видов из подро да Ochlerotatus рода Aedes. Активность каталазы измерена в гомогенатах недавно слинявших и зрелых самцов A. (O.) communis (de Geer) и A. (O.) cantans (Meigen), выявлены различия в удельной активно сти фермента между возрастными группами, аналогичные обнаруженным ранее у других видов кома ров: в возрасте менее 1 суток от выплода активность фермента значимо выше, чем в период от 3-4 до 8-10 суток. Повышенная активность каталазы, выявленная у самцов возраста менее 1 суток, вероятно, связана со стрессовым состоянием насекомого во время и/или сразу после метаморфоза. Возможно, повышенная активность каталазы в период после линьки необходима в связи с продукцией пероксида водорода при биосинтезе меланина. Выявленная динамика каталазной активности может индуктивно рассматриваться как общая закономерность среди комаров семейства Culicidae.
Птицы играют ключевую роль в функционировании большинства крупных экосистем планеты и являются важными объектами биомониторинга. Традиционные методы их изучения нередко имеют ограничения, особенно при исследовании редких, скрытных, мигрирующих видов или видов, обитающих в труднодоступных местах. Сложности с организацией полевых наблюдений, плохие погодные условия и разница в квалификации специалистов могут существенно искажать получаемые данные или даже делать их анализ невозможным. ДНК окружающей среды (экологическая ДНК, эДНК, environmental DNA, eDNA) - это неинвазивный и высокопроизводительный инструмент оценки биоразно образия, который постепенно входит в практику экологических исследований по всему миру. Наиболее впечатляющие результаты его применения связаны с изучением ихтиофауны, однако в последние несколько лет анализ эДНК также стал использоваться в орнитологии. Тем не менее, целенаправленные исследования птиц с применением эДНК проводятся сравнительно редко, что связано с отсутствием достаточной апробации методик. Актуальные данные (по состоянию на начало 2025 г.) позволяют утверждать, что эДНК может стать ценным инструментом для изучения биоразнообразия и экологии птиц. Методы, основанные на анализе эДНК, уже доказали свою эффективность в обнаружении водоплавающих и околоводных птиц, а также видов, не связанных с водной средой, например птиц-опылителей. В данной статье представлен обзор применения метода эДНК для детекции птиц в различных экосистемах - от тропических лесов до полярных широт, включая как водные, так и наземные среды. Рассматриваются основные направления использования метода, такие как идентификация отдельных видов и оценка разнообразия авифауны. Особое внимание уделяется меташтрихкодированию эДНК как наиболее перспективному подходу, способному значительно повысить производительность биомониторинговых исследований птиц.
Впервые изучено строение сейсмосенсорной системы и установлена топография сейсмосенсорных каналов у нототениевидных рыб рода Bovichtus Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1832: B. diacanthus Carmichael, 1810, B. psychrolutes Günther, 1861, B. angustifrons Regan, 1913 и B. oculus Hardy, 1988, а также у представителей двух других родов семейства бовихтовых - Cottoperca Steindachner, 1875 и Halaphritis Last, Balushkin et Hutchins, 2002, обитающих в нотальных водах Южного полушария. Проведено сравнение топографии каналов между изученными родами и видами Bovichtidae, установлены их диагностические признаки и различия. Особое внимание уделено строению костей, через которые проходят каналы, а именно: костным элементам окологлазничного кольца, плечевого пояса (posttemporale и supratemporale), неврокраниума (parietale, supraoccipitale, extrascapulare laterale и nasale) и периферийным структурам (канальцам и порам) как различных видов, так и родов. Для рода Bovichtus выявлено следующее направление эволюционных преобразований в ряду B. diacanthus - B. veneris - B. psychrolutes - B. oculus: редукция периферийных структур на голове, редукция костной крыши на большей части затылочной комиссуры и вытянутая форма члеников с выемкой для канальца сбоку. Неотенические признаки обнаружены у B. oculus, который ранее был сведён в синонимию B. psychrolutes - первичные поры в предкрышечно-нижнечелюстном канале, длинный участок надглазничного канала в nasale и меньшее развитие кожных образований сенсорных каналов головы. Функциональное значение обнаруженных преобразований предположительно связано с местом и глубиной обитания рыб, способом поиска пищи.
Обновлен кадастр находок болотной черепахи Emys orbicularis (Linnaues, 1758) в Казахстане. Уточнены старые сведения о находках вида, имевших неточные привязки к местности и/или неточное датирование. Новые сведения для бассейнов рек Ори, Илека, Уила и Эмбы подтверждают данные по обитанию здесь черепахи почти полувековой и вековой давности. Дополнительные пункты встреч E. orbicularis на севере Тургайской столовой равнины обрисовывают северо-восточные пределы распространения вида в Казахстане. Черепаха найдена на правых притоках р. Иргиз, заметно пересыхающих в летний сезон. Единичные встречи зарегистрированы в прибрежной зоне казахстанского сектора Каспия с соленостью воды до 12-13‰. По разрозненным данным 1990-2020 гг., встречаемость черепахи в Западном Казахстане варьирует от 1-3 до 9-10 особей на километр. Сезон размножения от спаривания до откладки яиц длится с третьей декады апреля по июнь включительно, выход сеголеток происходит в августе. Зарегулирование стока рек, забор воды и ее загрязнение, выпас скота, браконьерские сети, строительство мостов, дамб, прокладка дорог, сопровождающиеся гибелью черепах и разрушением мест обитания, лимитируют стабильность популяций E. orbicularis в Казахстане.
Один из массовых пролётных путей птиц в Европе - Беломорско-Балтийская миграционная трасса, проходящая по восточной Прибалтике. С целью изучения перелетов птиц путем кольцевания на Куршской косе была основана первая в мире орнитологическая станция Vogelwarte Rossitten, работу которой продолжила Биологическая станция «Рыбачий» Зоологического института РАН. За 19562020 гг. в этом месте сотрудниками Биостанции было окольцовано 3 миллиона 214 тысяч 217 особей птиц 202 видов и получено 10165 сообщений о дальних находках колец у 99 видов птиц. В статье представлен краткий обзор этих результатов. Основное внимание уделено следующим темам: а) результативности кольцевания разных видов птиц, включая падение доли возврата колец, б) географическому распределению мигрантов с примером миграционной связности между географическими областями в разные сезоны, в) возможностям изучения динамики численности популяций на основе данных ежегодного отлова, а также г) разным аспектам демографического изучения популяций по результатам кольцевания. Статья написана с целью ознакомления международной орнитологической общественности с нашими результатами кольцевания птиц, не вошедшими (по причинам, не связанными с наукой) в известный международный интерактивный атлас миграций и веб-сайт по ЕвразийскоАфриканскому пролётному пути птиц (2022 г.).
